Gaming Chair Buying Guide
Let’s get into the meaty part of the comparison where we take a deeper look at important differentiating features such as build quality, cost, sizing options, design options
Build Quality
The more expensive something is, the better quality it is, right? Not exactly. A lot of variables go into how certain brands are priced. Brand recognition, quality, target market, etc all play a part in determining prices. So no, price, when looked at solely cannot give us a perfect answer on build quality.
Both DXRacer and AKRacing are on the higher end of the gaming chair spectrum in terms of price and that does correlate (at least a bit) to better build quality. Make no mistake, both brands are made of sturdy, quality components. While you can certainly find lower priced gaming chairs, DXRacer and AKRacing are worth the extra cost.
They both use various materials such a polyurethane (leather substitute), leather vinyl and at times a mesh backing. The mesh backing can offer better airflow than solid material backings. This could be preferred by our gamer friends that ‘run hot’.
Both brands are built on sturdy metal frames and gas lifts that are capable of holding up to 450 lbs (DXRacer) and 330 lbs (AKRacing). The armrests are similar on both brands.
Conclusion
All things considered, from our personal findings and that of the user reviews and professionals alike, the build quality of both brands are top notch and deserving of the larger price tags. The build and materials are very similar for both brands therefore neither one really stands above the other.
Build Quality Winner - Tie
Cost
Cost is always an important factor. Simply put, people have different budgets. This is true for all purchases. The low end for DXRacer is $239 while the low end AKRacing model comes in at $329. Both have models that go up to $500-600+, so the top ends are comparable.
Both brands price increase as the size increases. Meaning chairs that hold more weight and/or are built for taller persons are naturally going to cost more. Sorry tall people!
Conclusion
Besides the starting point prices, we found the overall prices of similar models to be comparable across both brands. But alas, this is a cost comparison and since DXRacer has the lower entry point they win this round.
Cost Winner - DXRacer
Size Variety
Not all people are the same size and weight. This is, well, fact. Therefore, there is no size fits all chair. To really gain true comfort while gaming, you need a chair that fits you, just as a pair of shoes fit you. Continuing with the shoe analogy, if they are too big or too small, they’ll will cause blistering and pain. Maybe a misfitting gaming chair won’t cause blistering but you get the point.
Both DXRacer and AKRacing offer sizes based o weight and height. DXRacer Tank series can support up to 450 lbs and heights of 6′ 7″. The AKRacing LX Series can hold up to 330 lbs. And while no height support is given, based on chair measurements, we estimate that this series can comfortably fit people that are 6′ 4″.
From these top series DXRacer has seemingly a series for every inch increment down to 5′ 9″. AKRacing has an EX (standard), EX-Wide (standard-wide), SX (small) and LX (large) series in their Core Gaming chair collection.
Conclusion
Again, both brands have varying sizes for different weights and heights. DXRacer goes above and beyond in size variety offering much more in terms option. Winner, DXRacer.
Size Variety Winner - DXRacer
Design
Last but not least, design. Face it, people, us, we, like things to look cool. From our clothes, to our cars, to our (most importantly) gaming rigs and peripherals.
Both brands have similar design characteristics that are popular in the gaming community. The reds, blues, greens and oranges are prominent in the sharp edge designs for DXRacer and AKRacing. Honestly, the differences are subtle and may come down to personal preference.
Conclusion
We promised an unbiased comparison and up to this point I think, we’ve succeeded. But I do have to admit, I am partial to the AKRacing designs and have to give them the edge in this round.
Design Winner - AKRacing
DXRacer vs AKRacing - The Winner is...
Based on the lower entry price point, high quality build and more options in terms of sizing, we proclaim DXRacer the winner in this head to head comparison. Honestly, the two brands are very similar and the thing that matters most, quality, is consistent in both. We can say with certainty that you’d enjoy playing deep into the night in either brand of gaming chairs.
