25 Best Fortnite Skins – The Rarest Skins Ever!

by Tyler

What are the coolest Fortnite Skins? We’ve asked our readers, consulted the forums, and leaned on the pros to compile a list of the best and rarest Fortnite Skins out there. Fortnite has been running for a long time, and there are loads of skins available to players. It can be tricky to find the ultimate 25 best Fortnite skins or even the rarest Fortnite skins. This list though looks at the problem from every angle!

Now, keep in mind this list is subject to change as Epic can decide to re-release skins at any time. New skins get added often too, but the rarest skins have a way of staying hard to obtain! These are the best Fortnite skins in 2021 and the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021:

25 Best Fortnite Skins

25. Tomato Head

Tomato Head Fortnite Skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 1,500 V-Bucks ($15)

The Tomato Head character skin is based on the famous Tomato Town Mascot. In today’s Fortnite though, Tomato Town is no more. It is long gone. The branding still exists though, with food stalls and buildings spread around the Chapter 2 map. Beyond that, the Tomato spirit will live thanks to Tomato Head staying in the game. This skin is one of Fortnite’s most iconic and you’re going to see it in a lot of games.

24. Chomp Sr.

Chomp Sr Fortnite Skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: 2,000 V-Bucks ($20)

In all honesty, this skin looks like a bad Halloween costume that a lazy teenager scrapped together after watching a marathon of Sharknado movies. But strangely, that is exactly what makes this skin so desirable. Go figure.

23. Wukong

wukong fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: 2,000 V-Bucks ($20)

Wukong is one of the more expensive skins and was released around the period of Chinese New Year in order to celebrate that holiday. The skin portrays Wukong who is essentially a monkey warrior in gilded armor. He hails from the story “Journey to the West”. Even if you don’t know that specifically, you likely know some characters he’s inspired. Sun Wukong was the inspiration behind Dragon Ball series, alongside a lot of other adaptations. The skin from this mythical character is pretty cool, and it definitely stands out as one of the best Fortnite skins.

22. Dire

dire wolf fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost:  Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks)

The Big Bad Wolf of Little Red Riding Hood lore makes this list. It was obtainable as a reward for reaching tier 100 on Season 6 Battle Pass. Or maybe it’s the dire wolves of Game of Thrones Legend. You be the judge.

21. Rook

rook fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks

The Rook character skin was obtainable as a reward for reaching Tier 87 during Fortnite Battle Pass Season 5 and looks like a take on a Frontier librarian who is ready to punish all those who don’t return their books in time. Season 5 was quite a while ago at this point, so this isn’t the most skin out there.

20. Bunny Brawler

bunny brawler fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 1,500 V-Bucks ($15)

Bunny Brawler is a cute bunny skin that was released during the Easter holidays along with the Bunny Raider skin. The skin features an adorable one-piece pajama suit along with ears and bunny slippers, the whole shebang. Easter skins come back to the game pretty frequently and you recently had another chance to get this skin.

19. Mothmando

mothmando fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 1,500 V-Bucks ($15)

This character skin is a Fortnite take on the popular folklore legend of the Mothman. Admittedly, the creature is a lot less horrific in Fortnite than in the legends that inspired it. As a Fortnite skin though, drawing from real-life urban legends is a form place to take inspiration from.

18. Sgt. Green Clover

sgt. green clover skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Uncommon (Green)
  • Cost: 800 V-Bucks

The Sgt Green Clover skin was last seen during the St. Patrick’s 2018. This one does come back to the game whenever St Patrick’s day comes back around.

17. Purple Skull Trooper

purple glow skull trooper
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 1,200 V-Bucks

The Skull Trooper, specifically the Purple Skull Trooper, is a rare skin. This is because the Purple version was only available to players who purchased the skin in 2017. The skin was re-released in 2018 with other variants. To compensate players who had previously held the rare skin, Epic introduced this version. It is exclusive to those who had Skull Trooper originally, making it a lot rarer than the normal version.

16. Fable

fable fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks)

Fable character skin is obviously based on the fairy tale of the Little Red Riding Hood and features the familiar character with a red hood and a cape and a red skirt with various accessories that match the fable theme. It was obtainable as a Tier 47 Season 6 Battle Pass reward.

15. Love Ranger

love ranger fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: 2,000 V-Bucks ($20)

Love Ranger is basically the Fortnite version of Cupid except that this version is made of stone and a lot scarier looking than other depictions of Cupid. It is a Valentine’s day themed character skin and does pop up fairly often. This one of the best Fortnite skins tends to be seen a lot in the game.

14. Dark Voyager

dark voyager fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks

The Dark Voyager character skin was obtainable as a reward for reaching Tier 70 during Fortnite Battle Pass Season 3 and is similar to an Astronaut set but with a black and orange theme to it instead of white. Being from quite a while ago and locked behind progress to level 70, this is one of the rare Fortnite skins that you don’t see often.

13. Codename E.L.F.

Codename E.L.F. fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Rare (Blue)
  • Cost: 1,200 V-Bucks

This skin was released during the holiday season of 2018 and we have not seen it in the item shop since! It’s a nice skin to have during the winter seasons if you really want to spread some holiday cheer when going for those Victory Royales. Codename Elf is a pretty old skin, it has been around in the game since the first season. It hasn’t been seen since 2018, which makes it one of the rarest Fortnite skins.

12. Dusk

dusk fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks

Dusk character skin was obtainable as a reward for reaching Tier 71 during Fortnite Battle Pass Season 6 and is truly a marvel to look at. It features a female in a black leather outfit with claws, bat wings, and piercing red eyes. It was obviously inspired by vampires and gothic culture.

11. Valor

valor fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks

The Valor character skin was obtainable as a reward for reaching Tier 71 during Fortnite Battle Pass Season 4 and it is most likely inspired by Wonder Woman and various other heroes. As one of the older battle pass skins, you don’t see Valor all that often.

10. Crackshot

crackshot fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: 2,000 V-Bucks ($20)

Crackshot is a character skin that features a huge terrifying Nutcracker mask which is silly in all honesty. And while the set won’t give you any tactical advantage on the battlefield, it will certainly make everyone notice you. So if that is what you are going for, this is the skin for you.

9. Dante and Rosa of the Muertos Set

Dante and Rosa of the Muertos fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 1,500 V-Bucks ($15)

Dante and Rosa of the Muertos Set is another skin set that features both a male and a female version. The set is clearly inspired by the Mexican culture and Day of the Dead and as such, incorporates elements of both. This set doesn’t come back too often.

8. Recon Expert

Recon Expert skin
  • Still in Rotation: Yes
  • Rarity: Rare (Blue)
  • Cost: 1200 V-Bucks

Not exactly the coolest skin to make the list but rare nonetheless. This skin is another that hit the item shop early on. This one was one of the rarest skins in the entire game for quite a while. However, it was briefly brought back to the shop. Obviously, a lot of people jumped on this skin when it came back, so it’s now one of the less rare ones. Its occasional appearance has maybe done more to increase its notoriety though.

7. Ragnarok

ragnarok fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks

Ragnarok is a progressive skin that gets additional bells and whistles as the player completes the challenges related to the skin. While the basic version of Ragnarok is nothing to sneeze at, the fully unlocked Viking is a sight to behold. Ragnarok was obtainable as a Tier 100 Season 5 Battle Pass reward. Since this is a dynamic skin, it’s in demand. It is also older, and quite a bit rarer than others.

6. Ghoul Trooper

Ghoul Trooper Skin Fortnite
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 1500 V-Bucks ($15)

Ghoul Trooper was released as a Halloween 2017 promotion. This was before the popularity spike Fortnite saw in 2018 and therefore this skin was not widely purchased. It was brought back a few times though, so this skin isn’t as rare as it once was. It is still pretty iconic and one of the best Fortnite skins.

5. Galaxy

fortnite galaxy skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: Samsung Galaxy Note or the Galaxy Tab S4 ($400+)

The Galaxy skin is currently the most expensive skin to date as it required the pre-order or purchase of the Samsung Galaxy Note or the Galaxy Tab S4. Players then needed to install Fortnite on the device and play 3 games. At which time, they were rewarded with the skin. This skin is rare because it was only available to Samsung customers. The skin went mainstream when Ninja was seen using it. It was a bit of an expensive one to grab though, so while this is one of the best Fortnite skins few people have it.

4. Sparkle Specialist

Sparkle Specialist skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Epic (Purple)
  • Cost: 2,000 V-Bucks ($20)

A disco-themed skin, the Sparkle Specialist appeared in Season 2 and hasn’t reappeared since. If you want to get your YMCA on, you’ll have to wait until this skin hits the shelves again.

3. Aeriel Assualt Trooper

aeriel assault trooper rare fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: 1,200 V-Bucks ($12)

The Aeriel Assault Trooper was available in Season 1 only, making it a very rare skin. You were able to receive the skin after you reached level 15 and paid 1200 V Bucks. It hasn’t been seen in the shop since. This isn’t one of the most exciting Fortnite skins out there, but its rarity makes it one of the best.

2. Black Knight

black knight skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Legendary (Orange)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks

Available after purchasing the Season 2 Battle Pass, the Black Knight skin is a rare one indeed.  You would have needed to reach Tier 70 to obtain this skin and it also came bundled with a cool back bling shield. Having this skin says you’ve been in the game for quite some time. The Black Knight skin is cool-looking skin that’s sure to get the attention of your foes.

1. Renegade Raider

renegade raider rare fortnite skin
  • Still in Rotation: No
  • Rarity: Rare (Blue)
  • Cost: Base Battle Pass costs 1200 V-Bucks

Available during Season 1 only and after you’ve reached level 20, this is the rarest Fortnite Skin to date. Due to only being available during Season 1 and it not being a very attractive skin to some, not many players purchased this skin. It has never been re-released giving it the top spot on our list.

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins in 2021

Those are the best Fortnite skins that are currently around in the game. However, they aren’t entirely the rarest. Some of the rarest Fortnite skins are incredibly difficult to get your hands on. However, they aren’t always the best or the most interesting. The rarest Fortnite skins might not stand out the most in your wardrobe, but they’re definitely going to make you look unique in the lobby. You’re rarely going to see anyone else wearing these skins. These are the top 50 rarest Fortnite skins in 2021! Although, keep in mind that Epic does like to change things up so this list can change often:

Honorable Mention: Recon Expert

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

The Recon Expert. This little skin dominated the top of rarest Fortnite skins lists for a lot of years, but it just can’t make the grade for the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021. Why? It came back.

Recon Expert came briefly back to the store. Normally, this wouldn’t have too big of an impact. However, this particular skin has been at the center of conversations about the rarest skins for some time. So, what happens when it pops back up? A lot of players bought it, so this is now really a more common skin. It isn’t exactly one of the best Fortnite skins in 2021 either, so it is more interesting for its history now than anything else.

50. Blue Team Leader

This skin isn’t one of the 50 rarest Fortnite skins because of its age or price, just its availability. You could only get this one by subscribing to PSPlus. There are plenty of people out there playing on a PlayStation with this skin. However, it is more limited than those just available in the shop since it is only available to some console players. It was also timed as a PSPlus exclusive, eventually being replaced. This has made it one of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021, but only on some platforms and lobbies.

49. Moisty Merman

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

Want to look obnoxious? This is the skin for you! That is a little unfair, this skin is kind of great in a way too. It is loud and a bit distracting, but that’s half of the fun of having the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021. The fishman has come back a few times since release, but he isn’t a common feature of the store’s rotation. Especially now that the game has so many licensed monster skins to push on players instead.

48. Omega

The Omega skin was originally available during Season 4. It isn’t exactly the rarest skin in the game, but you have to have been playing a long time and been quite committed to the game to have this one around.

47. Diamond Hanz

This skin was added to the game in 2021, so it is hard to say it is the rarest skin overall. However, it was only available for April Fools Day. Given that this is an event skin, and a joke skin, it’s unlikely to return. Its design is based on a meme, but also a trending news topic at the time, it likely won’t be relevant enough to make sense in future April Fools. In a few years, this might be one of the rarest Fortnite skins.

46. Sgt. Green Clover

Yet another Holiday Skin. This one was released to coincide with St Patrick’s Day. These skins are really rare, but they also shouldn’t be worn year-round. You should keep this one in your backup until St Patrick’s Day rolls around.

45. Hollowhead

This was an Epic rarity skin that was released during Halloween 2018. It was part of Season 6, so while plenty of people were playing it had a short window of release. With glowing eyes, it is one of the more eye-catching skins of the 50 rarest Fortnite skins. Hollowhead hasn’t been seen since November 1st, 2018. This is definitely one of the rarest skins out there.

44. Midnight Ops

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

Midnight Ops is a rare skin that hasn’t been seen in the game in quite some time. While it might be a bit dull looking, it is pretty strange to see it out in the wild. The best Fortnite skins tend to have a bit more going on than this one, but it is a fun inclusion all the same.

43. Heidi

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is an Epic rarity skin meaning it cost quite a bit in the first place. Being a holiday-centric skin, it hasn’t been seen in quite a while. The skins that coincide with holidays are often the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021. This isn’t the rarest holiday skin, but it is rare to see.

42. Ludwig

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

Just what is Ludwig supposed to be? His clothes look vaguely Hansel and Gretel, but the beard is out of nowhere. It is a good job that this isn’t a particularly good look since he shows up so rarely. This is one of the rarest skins in Fortnite partly because of how strange it is. It doesn’t come back to the store all that often. Although, it has been seen more than a lot of others higher on the best Fortnite skins in 2021 list.

41. Jack Gourdon

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is another Epic tier skin that hasn’t been seen in the item store for some time. This one might make a reappearance in the future though; it isn’t the stuff of legend like the skins further down this list of the rarest Fortnite skins. Old pumpkin head makes a change from the constant tomatoes.

40. Mission Specialist

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This purple variety of skin was originally part of the Season 3 Battle Pass. It isn’t the most interesting skin out there, but it does demonstrate that you’ve been playing the game for a long time! Jonsey in a cosmonaut outfit is at least a stylistically cool entry to the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021. As a Battle Pass skin, once you missed this one it isn’t coming back. So, skins like Mission Specialist get rarer and rarer the longer the game goes on.

39. Rust Lord

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin is another one from Season 3. However, this one has made some returns. It isn’t as rare as some other Battle Pass exclusive skins, but you don’t see it all the time in the game.

38. Moonwalker

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This one is the Female variant of all the Astronaut styled skins that were in the game back in Season 3. Like the others, this is a real demonstration of how long you’ve been playing Fortnite for. If you don’t have it, your chances of actually being able to get it are pretty slim. The astronauts aren’t s crazy as some of the newer best Fortnite skins, but they have a lot of charm.

37. Yuletide Ranger

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

Holiday skins often become the rarest, since they’re limited in how often they can pop back up. Yuletide Ranger originally appeared during Christmas 2017.  It was briefly available again once Christmas since. However, it isn’t a skin that Epic brings back every Christmas. Although holiday skins can be brought back each year, Epic typically sells fresh holiday content making these rare skins to have.

36. Love Ranger

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This one was exclusive to Valentine’s Day. For those who weren’t’ busy on the year’s most romantic day, there was a Fortnite skin available! It is Cupid-like and definitely something different. This one did previously rank higher as the rarest Fortnite skins. However, it came back to the store briefly in a few Februarys since release.

35. Levithan

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

The Levithan is a skin that was quite simple to obtain, pick it up in the shop. However, it has never returned to the store. This one is actually quite cool too, hopefully, it is brought back in the future. Until then, Fish bulb deserves his status as one of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2020!

34. Blue Squire

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is one of the duller entries on this list, it kind of just looks like a scruffy default. However, it is pretty rare. To have this skin you would have needed to have been playing back in Season 2. It was also exclusive to a Battle Pass. This makes it really rare, and few players actually have this skin in the game.

33. Purple Glow Skull Trooper

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is one of the rarest Fortnite skins, despite coming back to the shop for a little while. It was part of the 2017 Halloween skins called Skull Trooper. When Skull Trooper returned in 2018, the original skin got a Purple Glow. This has given it a real exclusive status. The trooper skins are a contentious group, but they’re some of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021

32. Drift

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin is pretty rare as far as complete looks go. To get the full skin, you’re going to need to accumulate 200,000 experience. This was part of the Season 5 Battle Pass. Since it has been out of the rotation for a little while and had such a high barrier to unlocking it isn’t seen all that often anymore.

31. The Reaper

This skin was your reward for progressing through to Tier 100 of the Season 3 Battle Pass. This means you had to be playing early, and effectively. This is a fairly popular skin to see in loading screens, but rarer in the actual game. This is another iconic skin that Epic doesn’t bring out much anymore. There are a number of very similar skins though, which kind of makes this one feel less special.

30. The Merry Marauder

This Gingerbread man skin was only available during Christmas 2017! The Christmas skins are some of the most difficult to come by. By being seasonally limited, a lot of them have ended up on the 50 rarest Fortnite skins. Gingy is fairly iconic though, even getting a back bling and many other accessories over the years. This might be partially down to his use by a popular streamer, Lazarbeam, who incorporated him into his Icons series skin.

29. Golden Skin Variants

These skins are a fun addition to the best Fortnite skins. They’re from newer Battle Passes but have crazy unlock conditions. You have to go way beyond the normal Battle Pass tiers to unlock these. The top ones are genuinely hard to actually rack up the experience for, as Seasons only last for a certain amount of time. You’ll need to keep pushing the game to get the best possible level if you want to unlock the gold skins for new Battle Passes.

28. The Royale Bomber

The Royale Bomber is a skin exclusive to those who have picked up the Fortnite PS4 Bundle. This is quite a few more people than some other bundles through the years, but buying a whole PS4 is still a high barrier for a fairly dull skin. Even if those looking specifically for the rarest Fortnite skins in 2020 might want to look to buy the skins separately.

27. Eon

This skin was bundled exclusively with the Xbox One. This is a bit of an issue for a lot of players since you would have to purchase a brand-new games console to get access to it! It makes you resemble a kind of all-white robot. It isn’t the rarest skin out there, but definitely has a high barrier to entry.

26. Tomato Head

Tomato Head has remained an iconic part of Fortnite, even on the Chapter 2 map there are hints of his former prominence over the entire game. Everybody loved Tomato Town, so what better to remember it than with this now rare skin? This is one of the rarest skins in Fortnite in 2021, even if everyone knows tomato head.

25. Chomp Sr.

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is a kind of weird skin that looks more like a weird shark. It definitely makes you stand out though. If you want to flex by being hard to miss yet still evading enemy fire, go for this one.

24. Wukong

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin was released to coincide with Chinese New Year. However, unlike other holiday skins, there is even less chance of this one reappearing. It specifically ties in with the Year of the Monkey, which isn’t going to come around again for a while.

23. Dire

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin comes from reaching Tier 100 of the Season 6 Battle Pass. It is definitely a different look. As with other Battle Pass rewards, this one shows off how much XP you managed to grind through the Season. This makes it rarer and rarer as time passes since old Battle Passes aren’t coming around again.

22. Rook

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin was another one that came with the higher end of a Battle Pass. It is a bit softer than some of the others on this list. Sometimes the 50 rarest skins in Fortnite, aren’t the coolest, just the least seen! Battle Passes dominate that kind of area since they’re difficult to get a hold of.

21. Bunny Brawler

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is another holiday-specific skin! If you’re picking up on a theme in these 50 rarest Fortnite skins, it is that holiday skins are rare. The lesson here is to get every Holiday skin if you’re looking to sell your account!

20. Mothmando

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is a Mothman creature. There isn’t too much else to it, but it is pretty rare in the game now. Some of the goofier rare skins have a real charm over the popularly seen ones. This one might not be the oldest skin on here, but it is one of the rarest Fortnite skins around at the moment.

19. Double Helix

The Double Helix is the last of the hardware exclusive skins. This one came bundled with the Nintendo Switch. While it is a pretty fun console with great exclusive games, not a lot of people bought it specifically for Fortnite. It is the Marios and Zeldas on the console that brings players in, not a Fortnite bundle. This makes this skin one of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2020 since it was only available to those who bought the Fortnite branded Switch console.

18. Fable

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin was a reward for the Season 6 Battle Pass. It complements the other half of the Red Riding Hood skin. It isn’t the most fear-inspiring skin, but it is rare enough to set you apart from the rest of the Battle Bus.

17. Dark Voyager

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This one was also part of a Battle Pass but didn’t unlock until quite far in. The astronaut-themed skins have all become quite rare since they came so early in the game. Battle Pass skins don’t come back, so they’re usually a good bet for the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021.

16. Dusk

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This one was unlocked at Tier 71 during the Season 6 Battle Pass. It isn’t the most unique skin in the world after some recent events, but it will turn a few heads. The rarest Fortnite skins aren’t always the most unique, but they are typically different.

15. Special Forces

This one of the rarest Fortnite skins is another that isn’t all too different from the standard skins that you’re going to find in the game. While it isn’t flashy, it is one of the rarest shop skins that are still around. It hasn’t been in the item shop in over 800 days. While it isn’t going to always be this rare, at the moment you would have had to have been playing this for a long time to get this one.

14. Backbone

Backbone is a fun biker skin that hasn’t been seen in the shop in over 800 days. There might be some cultural reasons why this Fortnite skin hasn’t been released in a while. While bikers are a feature of pop culture in a lot of the world, in some places they carry a more negative and gang-related connotation. In a game that sometimes gets criticized for its child audience and subject matter, this skin might be missing for a reason.

13. Axiom

Axiom is a fun paraglider type of skin with a kind of superhero vibe. It hasn’t been in the shop for nearly 700 days. So it has been years since you were able to get access to this skin. This will make even a more dull skin very rare. Axiom might not be one that most players think about unlocking, but it is one of the harder to get skins at the moment.

12. Cloudbreaker

Cloudbreaker is another aerial-themed skin. This one is pretty clearly an old-school pilot. While on the simple side, this is a fun skin and one that a lot of players probably wouldn’t mind using. However, it is also one of the item shop skins that haven’t been around in quite a while. It hasn’t been seen in over 750 days, so it would be pretty hard to get your hands on.

11. Valor

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This one was the Tier 71 Reward for the Fourth season of Fortnite. It demonstrates to anyone you happen to run into that you’ve been playing for a while and was good enough at Fortnite to get through that Battle Pass! Season 4 is really quite old now that we’re in the tail-end of Chapter 2, so this is one of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021.

10. Crackshot

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is another skin that seems to serve more as a disadvantage than an actual advantage. It really makes you stand out. This isn’t the best way to play a game though, you do need some element of surprise! Despite this, crackshot is definitely one of the more fun looks and possibly one of the best Fortnite skins.

9. Dante and Rosa of the Muertos Set

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

These skins were inspired by Day of the Dead. They look pretty cool and are quite hard to find. A weird example of a skin that actually has a unique look becoming rare. These are two, but since they’re from the same limited set it is worth putting them in together rather than on their own.

8. Ragnarok

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

Ragnarok was the top tier unlock during Season 5. This skin really demonstrates that you how to play, you’ll get plenty of players stopping to look at this skin.

7. Ghoul Trooper

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

The Ghoul Trooper was returned to the store after being absent for a while. However, the original received a small change. This has led to two Ghoul Troopers being available in the game, each with a few unique elements, but both very rare.

6. Galaxy

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This skin is one of the most bizarrely rare ones. It was only released to players who bought a particular Samsung Galaxy phone. To get this skin, you had to purchase a really expensive piece of tech. This has obviously priced it out of most people’s range. Some have bought the code for this skin on the secondary market, but it is in short supply.

5. Honor Guard

Honor Guard is another hardware exclusive skin! This one came with the purchase of an HONOR View 20. This makes it similar to the Galaxy skin, but even more obscure since the brand is much less widely known. This is one of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021, and it will probably keep this title for some time.

4. Sparkle Specialist

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This disco-themed skin hasn’t been seen in quite some time. It is one of the rarer skins not because of its age or exclusivity to unlock, but just because Epic hasn’t re-run it any time recently. It may come back to the store eventually. Hardly as good of a story as buying PC hardware, yet it is one of the best and rarest Fortnite skins.

3. Aerial Assault Trooper

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This might look really boring, but it is one of the rarest skins in the entire game. It was released during Season 1. This season of the game didn’t really have many players and even fewer who were forking out money for skins. This has made it a boring yet really valuable skin.

2. Black Knight

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This is one of the few really rare Fortnite skins that actually look good too! This might be why it is so popular with those looking for unique or different Fortnite skins. The Black Knight is unlikely to be available again, making it one of the rarest Fortnite skins in 2021.

1. Renegade Raider

50 Rarest Fortnite Skins

This one was only available to players who were level 20 throughout Season 1 and decided to buy it. This has made it something of a hassle to pick up since. While it isn’t exactly the best-looking skin, it is really worthwhile wearing it if you’re lucky enough to have it. The rarest skin in Fortnite in 2021 is lost unless you’ve been playing for a while!

Best Fortnite Skins – FAQ

Those are the best and rarest Fortnite skins in 2021. However, Fortnite skins are a wide spectrum. There are some which are pretty common, like the rare ones given away without a Battle Pass and or V-Bucks. Then there are some that require the purchase of a phone or for you to have been an incredibly early adopter of Fortnite. So naturally, there are a lot of questions that are raised about Fortnite skins. This is what you need to know:

What Makes Fortnite Skins Rare?

When it comes to Fortnite skins, how rare each of them is slightly down to interpretation. There isn’t a specific metric we can look at to see how rare any of them are. Some people have different opinions on it. However, there are some clear metrics we can consider when deciding which are rarest. These are the factors we’ve used here for the best Fortnite skins and rarest outfits:

  • How Did You Get It? – The condition for how you could get a skin is important for how rare it is. If it is was very easy to get, then it likely isn’t as rare.
  • Can You Still Get it? – This is a pretty important factor here. Skins that are still easily available aren’t going to be as rare as others. Whereas those that have been inaccessible for a while are.
  • How. Long Ago Could You Get it? –  The rarest Fortnite skins are those that you haven’t been able to get for a while. The longer since release,
  • Was it From Outside of the Game? – This is an important factor for some of the skins on this list. Those that needed a big outside purchase are considerably rarer.

While some skins seem to be very rare despite these conditions, this is largely what makes some Fortnite skins a lot rarer than others.

Can You Buy Rare Fortnite Skins?

You can buy rare Fortnite skins if they come back into the item shop. You’re going to need to keep an eye on the item shop to see if any of these pops up. In recent months, Epic has been bringing back a lot of very rare skins. So it is worthwhile keeping an eye on the item shop.

You could also buy rare Fortnite skins on the secondary market. However, this is against Epic’s rules and can be a bit risky. For those that came with a download code, it tends to work fine if you get a legitimate code. However, for those in the game, this would entail buying an account. This can often lead to a ban.

How Do You Get the Rarest Fortnite Skins?

You need to be keeping a steady eye on the item shop if you want to get the rarest Fortnite skins. The really rare ones can pop back up from time to time. However, you’ll need to act quickly and recognize which are rarest if you want to get them in time. You can also try getting the limited-time deals, exclusive skins, and holiday/event skins. These are all skins that won’t be rotated around the standard item shop. This usually makes them quite a bit rarer.

For Battle Pass skins, you can’t get them once the season ends. If you think these are the best Fortnite skins, then you might be out of luck! Once a Battle Pass season ends the skin doesn’t come back, it was exclusive to that season and you won’t see it again.

The rare skins that come with in-real-life purchases are different. Those from console bundles, Samsung phones, or other sponsorship events work in a different way. For these, you need to either buy the qualifying item or a copy of a code that unlocks the tie-in skin. These are often sold online. The skins are worth a lot, and not everyone who has one of the purchases will need the skin. So often they’re sold online instead.

What are the Rarest Fortnite Skins?

The rarest Fortnite skins are partially down to your personal opinion. However, if you’re looking at how hard they are to acquire then these are probably the top five at the moment:

  • Renegade Rider
  • Aerial Assault Trooper
  • Black Knight
  • Sparkle Specialist
  • Honor Guard

What are the Rarest Item Shop Skins?

In terms of the skins that are in item shops, the rarest changes quicker. These skins could theoretically come back to the store at any point. So it is trickier to keep track of which are the rarest at the moment. However, out of the best Fortnite skins, these are currently the rarest from the item shop:

  • Sparkly Specialist
  • Purple Ghoul Trooper
  • Cloudbreaker
  • Axiom
  • Backbone

That’s what you need to know about the best and rarest Fortnite skins. However, a really impressive skin is wasted if you’re not playing your best. Our other guides to Fortnite can help make sure you’re outperforming the lobby, as well as looking better:

FuZ3 Titan November 3, 2019 - 12:31 pm

they would not bring renegade raider back, only reason if they did would be to get more money and people to play. but it would also upset season 1 players like me i have rengade and i hope it never comes back.

Person June 30, 2020 - 10:53 am

The recon came back so where is midnight ops

Tucker June 30, 2020 - 10:58 am

The renegade raider and areal assault were in the season shop so that makes midnight ops the rarest item shop skin

The omen is one of the rarest skins in the games I don’t see it WTF

Sparrow October 14, 2019 - 10:33 am

No way in hell is omega more rare. Black night goes back to season 2 where there was a few million players. Not even half of them purchased the season pass. And on top of the that there was no season challenges to go up in tiers. Pure leveling or spending a fortune to get it

Bon June 7, 2019 - 6:20 pm

Where is ikonik

Alejandro Herrera June 9, 2019 - 8:04 am

Yes but maybe instead of spending $1000’s of dollars on a fortnite account you should spend it on some literacy lessons to learn how to spell and learn proper grammar.

I believe that renegade raider is not the rarest one, but indeed is one of the best skins. If you want it, maybe you could get it in this site, which is really trustful https://mmoauctions.com/fortnite/items

Trooper February 12, 2021 - 2:42 pm
