PUBG is the original Battle Royale game, and it continues to be one of the most innovative titles in the entire genre. New updates to PUBG frequently push the boundaries of what a Battle Royale can do, including new features, new maps, and entirely new types of map for the game. The PUBG 13.1 Update has pushed the game even further in Season 12 building on the recently introduced Taego map and adding more new features to the game.
PUBG currently has started to introduce new maps a lot more often. Unlike other Battle Royales, they frequently have many maps running at once. They rotate these in and out, with some pretty major changes to freshen up older maps in between. The latest map to be added in was Taego with the PUBG Taego update. The game has received some big changes since then, to reflect the reaction to the new map by the player base. This is everything that’s happened in the newest update:
PUBG Taego Map Updates
The Taego map was first introduced in the 12.2 update as the latest brand-new map for the game. While the map has been here for a while, the PUBG 13.1 update has made some big improvements and upgrades to the map. The map is now in its most polished state, with most of its problems ironed out by the new update. These are some of the newer features and adjustments coming to the map in the Taego map update:
Air Drops
The Taego map features air drops that provide a direct way to get yourself some loot. The new version of the map has increased the amount of air drops that are happening on the map significantly. There are now going to be a lot more air drops over the course of each game. The air drops are a great opportunity to get some loot. However, they could also be used for cover.
The overall number of air drops are going to be increased. Normal crates are staying the same. However, small create are going up to 15 from 5. Multi drops will also now have other content, with ammo, healing items, throwables, and supplies occasionally dropping.
Secret Room – PUBG 13.1 Update
One of the most important aspects of the Taego map update in the PUBG 13.1 patch is the Taego Secret Room. This room is going to contain enough loot to set a player up for the map. You can only get the key basically at random though. Even if you do get it, you could struggle to find the room itself after.
The secret room key is going to be randomly found, without a specific spot for you to look in. Once you find the key, you can enter into the secret room to get the loot inside.
Inside of the secret room you can find self AEDs, scopes, supply items, healing items, and throwables. The secret room can be tricky to find though.
PUBG Taego Update – Emergency Landing
The Emergency Landing feature is a new addition to Taego and one that plays around with the very basic structure of a Battle Royale. When you’re in the plane flying over the map, there is a now a chance that the plane itself will explode. This will force every player to make an emergency landing rather than jumping when they normally do.
During the emergency landing, the plane will move faster and be at a more variable height compared to a normal journey. Since the height varies, you’re going to be able to travel further if you jump earlier in the journey.
PUBG 13.1 Update – Item Spawns
The PUBG 13.1 Update has altered the spawn rate for a number of the items in the Taego map. The new balance addresses some problems in gameplay that players identify on the original build of the map. This is how things have changed:
- Stock – 15% Less
- Stun Grenade – 14% Less
- Molotov Cocktail – 3% Decrease
- Self AED – 37& Increase
There are also some new items that have been introduced into the map, these include:
- Emergency Pickup
- C4
- Spike trap
Those are all of the changes that have been made to the Taego map with the PUBG 13.1 update. These are mainly changes to the balance of power in terms of loot on the map. This was one factor that a lot of players had complaints about, so this update has gone some ways to improve the general standing of Taego.
Sanhok Map Changes
Sanhok was first remastered by PUBG in 2020, having been in the game since 2018. However, clearly, the map isn’t yet done. PUBG has mixed the map up again, changing things around to better refine the performance of the area. This is what’s been done:
- Extra Landmarks – New landmarks have been added on the west to north coast in the South Ruins. There are also some minor changes in the northwest island.
- Northwest Island Temple – The northwest island temple has had some extra loot added, to give these cover providing buildings a lot more purpose.
Map Rotation
Map rotation has been freshened up in PUBG Update 13.1. It’s always good to get maps moved around in-game. However, PUBG can often have some maps go missing for a while. So it is great if the rotation is moved around enough, to keep things interesting and different for players. Paramo has been removed entirely and Karakin has been added. These are the map rotations now:
Normal Matches
- Erangle
- Miramar
- Sanhok
- Vikendi
- Karakin
Season 13 Ranked in PUBG 13.1 Update
Ranked mode in Season 13 is continuing its honor-based rewards that were added previously. The prizes include nameplates and emblems which will only apply for this season. Although, any of these prizes are a great show of your rank. They can especially be a good way to show off your progress in the Season, and ensure that other ranked players know just how well you’ve been performing. There are going to be more ranked cosmetics rewards going forward, such as animated nameplated and parachute skins.
Weapon Balance Update
The weapon balance of PUBG is a pretty important factor to think about, it decides what lot is worth looting and can completely change up how your game’s performance and strategy works. There have been some big changes to the weapon balance for this update, including a few big changes to some very popular weapon categories. These are the main weapon balance changes:
- Kar98K, Mosin-Nagant, M24 – This has received a buff to muzzle velocity, A flatter trajectory, less drag, and more damage coefficient at long range. Bolt action delay is reduced, bolt action speed is increased, scope transition is earlier and rate of fire increased.
- DMRs – Increased bullet drop
- QBZ – Increased damage, lower horizontal recoil
- G36 – Lower horizontal recoil
- DP28 – Increased damage
- M249 – Reduced horizontal recoil
- PP19 Bizon – Increased damage
These are the major changes that have happened to the game in PUBG Update 13.1. there are a few small other quality of life changes, along with some new skins. However, if you’re looking at gameplay then these are the major change. The weapon balance adjustments are one of the biggest changes.
