NEW STATS: Fire modes, Loaded & Empty Reload, Max Headshot Range, DPS and Attachments! pic.twitter.com/0zmNvjzrcy— ThrillGame (@TheThrillGame) February 9, 2019
Apex Legends has a total of 16 weapons in this game, every gun is unique and the key is to understand the benefits of every weapon depending on the situation a player is in. Mods can be attached to guns to make use of different features on the gun. Depending on what stage of the match you’re in, you have to mix and match a lot of items from your inventory and make sure you’re fully stocked for whichever situation you encounter.
With that in mind, let’s take a look and what each gun is capable of and when they should be used.
Prowler
This is the best SMG in the game by far. The Prowler, by default, is a burst-fire gun that uses heavy ammo. It has a max head-shot range of 40 meters and can deal damage figures of 14 (body) and 21(head). With 5 rounds to use on every reload, the Prowler can quickly take off your opponents shield within seconds.
- Weapon Class: SMG
- Ammo Type: Heavy
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Burst and Auto w/Mod
- Magazine Size: 20 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 14, Head 21
The “hopper” mod, when attached to the Prowler, turns the gun into a fully automatic gun and is one of the best guns to use in close combat situations, especially when the final circle gets smaller. Making sure you have an alternate weapon with better range is important, as the Prowler works best within the range of 40 meters. Apart from that, the Prowler is the only SMG that has a “Kick” in its recoil stats, hence holding a steady aim while continuously firing will be challenging.
VK-47 Flatline
If your new to the game and want to start off with a simple and safe weapon. This AR should do the job. The recoil of this gun isn’t tough to get used to and its range is pretty suitable for all situations. Heavy Ammo is needed for this weapon and it has damage values of 16 (Body) and 32 (Head). Unsurprisingly, this gun has a high DPS (damage per second), 160 (body) and 320 (head). The VK-47 Flatline has a head-shot range of 300 meters and other optic attachments help in accurately hitting those shots.
- Weapon Class: AR
- Ammo Type: Heavy
- Max Headshot Range: 300 meters
- Fire Modes: Single and Auto w/Mod
- Magazine Size: 20 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 16, Head 32
Since there are no special mods available for this gun, all you have to do is pick the gun up and head straight into the action. Keep a lookout for the VK-47 Flatline, if your not familiar with the other guns yet, it’s simple, powerful and gets the job done.
R-301 Carbine
This Assault rifle is very much similar to the VK-Flatline, in terms of range. The damage values of the R-301 Carbine are 14 (body) and 28 (head), lesser than that of Vk-47 Flatline. On the upper hand, this gun has a higher RPM than the flatline, hence it can fire more shots and has a higher Damage Per Second of 336.
- Weapon Class: AR
- Ammo Type: Light
- Max Headshot Range: 300 meters
- Fire Modes: Single and Auto w/Mod
- Magazine Size: 20 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 14, Head 28
The Carbine can be used in almost all scenarios if the right attachment is clubbed along. Many purple attachments work with the carbine and the right combinations make this a very powerful weapon.
Wingman
This is the best pistol to land on at the start of your game. Among the other pistols, the Wingman is the only pistol that uses heavy ammo. This high powered revolver has damage values of 45 (body) and 90 (head). With a DPS of 270 (head), you could eliminate your opponents by landing all three shots in a second.
- Weapon Class: Pistol
- Ammo Type: Heavy
- Max Headshot Range: 250 meters
- Fire Modes: Burst and Auto w/Mod
- Magazine Size: 20 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 14, Head 21
Attach the right mods (like skull-piercer) and this weapon would come in handy till the end of the game. The wingman is being labeled as the “hand cannon” of Apex legends and has very similar usage in the game. Make sure to make use of it’s 250m max headshot range. This is the only gun in its segment that can shoot long range.
Kraber .50cal
The Kraber .50cal is the best sniper rifle in the game. With a headshot damage of 250, this is the only sniper riffle capable of “One shot, one kill”. The Kraber comes with a 4x zoom by default and it can’t be used for any gunfight other than long-range ones. This is a bolt-action sniper, hence the time it takes for reloading is the longest in the game.
- Weapon Class: Sniper
- Ammo Type: Kraber
- Max Headshot Range: 750 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 4 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 125, Head 250
Never ignore this weapon unless the circle is really small. This powerful sniper rifle uses custom Kramer Ammo and can take out an enemy in just one shot. This is best suited during mid-match, especially when a player is already in the circle and he’s on the lookout for enemies rushing into the circle.
Triple-Take
This sniper-rifle fires three shots at a time and does some pretty crazy damage. It come with 3 sniper-riffle barrels that are positioned horizontally allowing players to get a wider aiming range. Unlike most of the other guns, the triple-take sniper-rifle uses energy ammo enhancing the damage values on opponents.
- Weapon Class: Sniper
- Ammo Type: Energy
- Max Headshot Range: 750 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 5 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 23, Head 46
The Precision Choke mod prevents bullets from spreading wide and out of control. Since the sniper shoots three shots horizontally, chances of those bullets going wide are highly likely, especially upon recoil. The Precision Choke negates this problem to a large extent.
Mastiff
Are you a staying indoors kind of player? Then this is the gun for you. This shotgun is rare to find and uses custom “Mastiff” ammo. Being a short-ranged weapon, it is best used for hunting downenemies that are hiding indoors. With barely any recoil to it, the Mastiff is the best gun to wipe-out squads without stressing it too much.
- Weapon Class: Shotgun
- Ammo Type: Mastiff
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 4 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 144, Head 288
If you’ve select the “Bloodhound” legend, using this gun will come in handy. Opponents can be quickly spotted using Bloodhound’s tactical and passive ability, this gives you the advantage to walk over to opponents and catch them off-guard. Use it wisely and you could get some insane squad take downs with this gun.
Devotion
This LMG goes a long way for for gun-fights within the rage of 60 meters. With an RPM of 900, this gun does the most Damage per Second in the game. Devotion is capable of causing 510 DPS (head) and can cause some serious damage on teams when sprayed on.
- Weapon Class: LMG
- Ammo Type: Energy
- Max Headshot Range: 60 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 44 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 17, Head 34
Devotion does take time to start firing, hence players have to pre-plan their attack and make sure the job is done before they stop shooting. Upon using the right attachments, you could decrease the initial firing delay.
G7 Scout
This semi-auto sniper rifle is ready to use with almost every attachment in the game. G7 Scout uses light ammo and has damage values of 30 (body) and 60 (head). To be honest, this sniper isn’t the best weapon to carry around with the limited damage figures. It’s best use is when your quad in pushing in on another team and you’re in-charge of backing them up from a distance.
- Weapon Class: SP
- Ammo Type: Light
- Max Headshot Range: 750 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 10 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 30, Head 60
Use this weapon to clean-up those “knocked” opponents. It can be done from a distance without expecting any counter-firing.
Spitfire
At the moment, Spitfire is one among the more accurate LMG’s available in the game. It doesn’t have as high a DPS than the Devotion because of its lesser RPM, but the recoil is much more controllable and can be used in medium range gun-fights. This LMG uses heavy ammo and damage values are at 20 (body) and 40 (head), which is the best in its section.
- Weapon Class: LMG
- Ammo Type: Heavy
- Max Headshot Range: 60 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 35 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 20, Head 40
The devotion has the “Hop-up” attachment which makes it a super-powered gun when combined. But when compared “as-is” the Spitfire is the better option among the two.
Longbow
This semi-auto sniper rifle uses heavy ammo and can complete a take-down with two head-shots back to back. With damage values of 50 (body) and 110 (head), the Longbow would be the next best sniper after the Kraber. The RPM of this gun is at 86 which is low compared to the other semi-auto weapons.
- Weapon Class: Sniper
- Ammo Type: Heavy
- Max Headshot Range: 750 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 10 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 50, Head 110
Make sure you mix and match the various “mods” judiciously because this gun is compatible with almost every attachment. Given the wide range to attachments from mags to optics, it’d be wise to carry around the Longbow with you as you may stumble upon a game-changing attachment later in the game.
Mozambique SG Pistol
This triple-barrel shotgun pistol comes in handy at the early stages of the game. Best suited for indoor battle, this gun has damage values of 135 (body) and 198 (head). The Mozambique is a powerful weapon and best suited while opening doors and while performing quick loots in multiple buildings. Opponents can be taken out in a few seconds if you land your first three shots.
- Weapon Class: Shotgun
- Ammo Type: Shotgun Shell
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 3 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 135, Head 198
Mozambique and Kraber are two guns that do not support any attachments. You’ll have to use them “as-in” straight out of the box throughout the game.
Hemlok Burst AR
This Burst-AR is powerful if you get your “first shot accuracy” on point. The Hemlok fires 3 bullets in rapid succession and can remove “full-shield” from a player. Burst firing is tricky given the fact that there is a major wait-time when firing rounds. If you end up in a war with other SMGs, it might be better to back-out or switch to a better option as this isn’t the gun for short range battles.
- Weapon Class: AR
- Ammo Type: Heavy
- Max Headshot Range: 300 meters
- Fire Modes: Single & Burst
- Magazine Size: 18 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 144, Head 288
Instead, use this as a support gun to charge into rooms and buildings. Just ensure you hit all three bullets whenever you fire a round and this gun should be good to go. Remember that Burst-rifles are designed not to spray on opponents, rather a more tactical approach is needed to eliminate opponents.
EVA-8 AUTO
This fully automatic shotgun hits opponents up to 100 meters and can be dangerous in close combat situations. The advantage of it being fully auto allows players to fire shotguns shots in rapid successions and take down opponents without stressing much.
- Weapon Class: Shotgun
- Ammo Type: Shotgun Shell
- Max Headshot Range: 100 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 8 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 126, Head 180
This gun has 8 rounds and can fired back-to-back with the trigger held down. Each of them has 9 pellets and if used wisely, just one magazine can get you multiple kills very quickly. Like every major shotgun, this too has some heavy recoil on it. Hence, put in that extra effort to keep the gun steady.
Alternator SMG
This would rank 2nd in the SMG list with its limited clip size being a drawback. The recoil on the Alternator is manageable and is good to be carried around for close quarter combat. This gun has a variety of options as attachments and it uses light ammo.
- Weapon Class: SMG
- Ammo Type: Light Ammo
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 16 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 13, Head 19
The DPS values on SMGs are always high and the same goes for the Alternator, 139 (body), 203 (head). These figures look high, but they are the least in the SMG list. Learning how to make use of your full ammo magazine is what players should concentrate on when you have the Alternator with you.
Peacemaker
The Peacemaker is unique in its own way. It’s the slowest of all the shotguns in the game, but the pellets are closely lined up to each other which makes it easier to hit shots. It has damage values of 110 (body) and 165 (head). Shots are powerful but the wait time between the two shots is a major deal-breaker and pro-players are having a “love-hate” relationship with this gun.
- Weapon Class: Shotgun
- Ammo Type: Shotgun Shell
- Max Headshot Range: 100 meters
- Fire Modes: Single
- Magazine Size: 16 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 110, Head 165
The precision-choke mod goes well with this gun. It prevents the pellets from spreading too wide and can create chaos if you’re planning to surprise-kill your opponents from the back.
R-99 SMG
This is the weakest SMG in the list. With damage values of 12 (body) and 18(head). carry this gun only if you haven’t found better options. Its recoil is only slightly better to the Prowler and does damage within 40 meters of its use. Like other SMGs. this is best suited for close combat.
- Weapon Class: SMG
- Ammo Type: Light Ammo
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 18 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 12, Head 18
The upper hand it has on all the other SMGs is its RPM (1080) which is the fastest in the game. Higher fire-rate also gives this gun a high DPS value of 324 (Head). Though all of this makes it sound very powerful, the recoil of the gun makes it a tough SMG to carry around.
RE-45 Auto Pistol
This pistol is fully automatic and can fire up to 15 rounds in one stretch. The recoil of this gun is high and can be controlled with the right attachments. Like almost all pistols, keeping this weapon throughout the match isn’t an option. You’ll have to get rid of this gun at some point and swap it for better options.
- Weapon Class: Pistol
- Ammo Type: Light Ammo
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 15 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 11, Head 16
Being a fully auto pistol, its high RPM contributes to a high DPS of 132 (body) and 192 (head). The recoil is tough on players if your planning on hitting those DPS number. Studying the recoil movements of this gun is important as you’re bound to pick up such pistols at the start o the game.
P2020 Pistol
The only positive attribute to the gun would be its recoil. Anyone new at the game can pick this gun up and start landing shot easily, the recoil is that user-friendly. The damage values and the fact that it is the least important gun of the game is something every player should be wary off. If this is the first gun you end up with, things are probably not going to go that well for you.
- Weapon Class: Pistol
- Ammo Type: Light Ammo
- Max Headshot Range: 40 meters
- Fire Modes: Auto
- Magazine Size: 10 Rounds
- Damage Dealt: Body 12, Head 18
This gun does support various mods from mags to optics and can be “buffed up” to an extent. It’s always ideal to avoid this gun unless there’s literally no way out. In case you are using it, make sure you attach the mods you find next to it.
